Ink Painting Valuation In India

Simplified Chinese: shumhuà; traditional Chinese: suiboku-ga or sumi-e; Japanese: suiboku-ga or sumi-e; Korean: sumukhwa) is a style of Chinese ink brush painting that employs various concentrations of black ink, like that employed in Asian calligraphy. It first appeared during China's Tang era (618–907) and replaced earlier, more realistic methods. A lot of focus is placed on virtuoso brushwork and communicating the perceived "spirit" or "essence" of a subject above direct imitation. It is often monochrome, employing only shades of black. From the Song dynasty (960–1279) onward, ink wash painting flourished. It was also introduced to Japan in the 14th century by Zen Buddhist monks.

Chinese paintings, especially ink wash paintings, can be categorised into three periods: historical Oriental art, expressionist periods, and representational periods. Chinese academics hold their own, possibly divergent, opinions and think that modern Chinese ink wash paintings are a pluralistic continuation of many diverse historical traditions.

Ink wash painting developed a unique stylistic tradition in China, Japan, and to a much lesser extent in Korea. It was practised by a different group of painters than other styles of painting. It was a gentlemanly profession related with poetry and calligraphy, especially in China.
